An apartment in a highly sought-after South Yarra location has hit the market for the first time in more than 80 years.
There has been one continuous owner of 3/7 Alexandra Ave since the apartment complex was built in 1935.
Now, the apartment is ready for the next chapter with a new owner when it goes to auction on May 4 at 11am with price hopes of $1.29 million to $1.4 million.
Biggin & Scott Prahran director Tom McCarthy said a family member of the long-term owner built the apartment building.
“It has a ripping view, you can even see Government House,” Mr McCarthy said.
The three-bedroom apartment is located two doors away from the Royal Botanic Gardens and has a view of the Yarra River from the living room and a view from the formal dining room of the gardens and Government House.
One of only four apartments, this one was refurbished in the 1980s leaving room to renovate further and bring it into today’s style.
Mr McCarthy said this location was “the most desirable in Melbourne”.
“A lot of people buy houses and build apartment developments on them. In this location it is the opposite, someone would buy a block of apartments, knock them down and build a house on the site,” he said.
